dl Joe green, dunbar Hs (tem Ple) After moving on from dunbar, green had an illustrious career
at both the collegiate and pro levels. The defensive tackle earned All-
American honors while at North Texas State, and that led to him being
the No. 1 draft pick (Pittsburgh) in 1969. green is a four time Super Bowl
champion, and is a member of the Collegiate and NFL hall of Fame.
dl JoHn randle, Hearne Randle played his college ball at Trinity Valley Community Col-
lege before transferring to Texas A&m-kingsville. The minnesota Vikings
struck gold when they signed Randle, as he went on to play in seven Pro
Bowls. Randle has most recently been inducted into both the Collegiate and
NFL hall of Fame.
dl micHael straHan, Houston Westbur Y After playing just one season of high school ball at houston
Westbury, Strahan quickly made his presence felt in the college ranks.
At Texas Southern university, Strahan went on to win numerous awards,
including the SWAC player of the year in back to back seasons. Strahan
played his entire NFL career for the New york giants, and in his last season
captured the Super Bowl crown.
dl cHarles aaron “bubba” smitH, beaumont cHarlton-Pollard
After playing for his father at Charlton-Pollard high School, Smith ended
up taking his talents to michigan State university. during his time as a
Spartan, Smith earned All-American honors twice and was inducted into
the Collegiate hall of Fame in 2006. Smith played nine seasons for the
(Baltimore) Colts, Raiders and Oilers and helped win Super Bowl V.
lb tomm Y nobis, san antonio Jefferson Nobis is noted as being one of the greatest collegiate players of
all time. At the university of Texas, under the direction of darrell k. Royal, the
linebacker and his Texas teammates went on to win the 1963 National Cham-
pionship over Navy. during his pro career with the Falcons, he was named the
defensive rookie of the year (1966) and went on to take part in five Pro Bowls.
lb Jessie armstead, dallas carter Armstead, of dallas Carter, was one of the top prospects to
come out of high school in the late 1980s. under head coach dennis
Erickson, Armstead and the rest of his university of miami teammates
won national championships in 1989 and 1991. Armstead played for both
the New york giants and the Washington Redskins and made five Pro
Bowl appearances in his 11-year NFL career.
lb mike singletar Y, Houston WortHing After his days at houston Worthing, mike Singletary broke
into the college scene as he headed to Baylor. With the Bears, Singletary
earned All-American honors in 1979 and 1980, and was awarded the
davey O’Brien memorial Trophy (most outstanding player in the Southwest
Conference). Singletary and his teammates captured Super Bowl xx, and
in his 11 total NFL seasons, he was invited to the Pro Bowl 10 times.
Singletary was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2008-
2009 and is currently the linebackers coach for the minnesota Vikings.
db darrell green, Houston Jones green was both a football and track star during his high school
and college career ( Texas A&m-kingsville). green really broke out during his
first initial season in the NFL with the Redskins, as he started all sixteen
games as a rookie. in total, green racked up numerous awards ranging from
the Walter Payton man of the year (1996) to his seven time Pro Bowl selec-
tions. green, who played an incredible total of 20 NFL seasons with the
Redskins, also captured victory in both Super Bowl xxii and xx Vi.
db ken Houston, dunbar Hs (lufkin) After finishing his high school career at dunbar, houston
earned All-American honors during his playing career at Prairie View
A&m. After being selected in the 9th round of the entry draft, hous-
ton quickly made a name for himself, starting his rookie season with
the Oilers. in the 1971 season, houston returned five interceptions for
touchdowns and ended with nine for his career, which is tied for fourth
all-time. houston was also selected to the Pro Bowl 12 straight years
from 1968 to 1979.
db Jerr Y gra Y, lubbock estacado After leaving Lubbock Estacado, gray quickly made his mark
at the university of Texas where he earned All-American honors twice
while with the Longhorns. gray then went on to play nine NFL seasons
with the (Los Angeles) Rams, Oilers, and Buccaneers earning Pro Bowl
honors four times. gray has also had multiple coaching positions within
the collegiate and NFL levels, and is currently the defensive coordinator
for the Tennessee Titans.
db bobb Y ta Ylor, longvie W After his stellar career with the Lobos, Taylor took his talent
to the historic Notre dame program. After playing four seasons with the
irish and earning first-team All-American honors, Taylor was drafted by
the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 1995 draft. he played
nine seasons with the Eagles before ending his career in Seattle in 2004.
Taylor was a Pro Bowl selection during the 2002 season.
