PERHAPS THE MOST HIGH-PROFILE move of the offseason was that of Shawn Robinson, the prolific dual- threat quarterback who led Denton
Guyer to a 20-6 cumulative record during the
past two seasons.
Robinson’s mother was hired in April as the
head girls basketball coach at DeSoto, where
Robinson steps in to run an offense already
featuring several Power Five conference-bound recruits.
Robinson posted staggering offensive
numbers at Guyer. During the past two
seasons, Robinson accounted for almost
7,400 total yards of offense and 79 total
touchdowns. At 6-2, 205 pounds, Robinson
is an athletic, physical runner at the quarterback position who is a home run-hitter as a
ball-carrier, while also flashing terrific velocity
and arm strength as a passer. Those traits
are key reasons Robinson is Scout.com’s No.
1 quarterback in Texas for the 2017 class and
a five-star prospect.
“He is one of the most impressive runners
that I’ve ever scouted at the quarterback posi-
tion,” said Scout national analyst Greg Powers.
“He is not only a threat to score when he pulls
the ball down to run, he also is still a threat to
pass for a touchdown in that situation because
he always keeps his eyes locked downfield.”
Regardless of how he scores those
touchdowns, Robinson is a big play waiting
“I feel like I can hurt you with both passing
and with my legs,” Robinson said. “Overall I
feel like I just make plays, whether it’s passing
Robinson is poised for a monster senior
season on the aforementioned loaded DeSoto
offense, which features a line that includes
Edward Ingram, Hyrin White, and Xavier
Newman. He’ll throw to dangerous weapons in
KD Nixon and Laviska Shenault Jr. One thing
is certain, DeSoto is bound to score tons of
points in 2016.
